Structural indicators on environmental factors having impact in psitive mental health:‏

SRRUCTURAL INDICATORS:
Direcltly observed phenomena which can be used as quantitative measures of any of the dimensions that are included in the concept of positive mental health.

BACKGROUND:
1, Few qualitative measures of positive mental health.
2, Little published research relevant to structural indicators.
3, Indicators could offer standards for monitoring and evaluating programmes and policies.

SOCIAL CAPITAL:
1, The indicators give an ecological perspective on factors which have an impact on social support and inter-personal safety throughout the life cycle.
2, They support strategies to enhance social competence and individual coping styles and transitional stages in life.

PROMOTION OF MENTAL HEALTH THTOUGH SCHOOLS AND EDUCATION:
1,Proportion of schools with mental health promotion activities in their curriculum.
2,Proportion of schools offering counselling and emotional support to aged 5-16 years.
3,Mental health support in school
EMPLOYMENT AND WORKPLACE MENTAL HEALTH:
1,Prevalance of programmes to promote and addresses psychological risk factors in the workplace.
2,Satisfaction with the work environment (Could be assessed through quality Insurance stategies)
3,Existence and extension of supported employment programmes for people with long term mental problems.
4,Proportion of people without work.
5,Stability of employment (Levels of temporary employment)
6,Statutory income for long term sickness/ disability as a % of average income.
7,Existence of Mental Health promotionas [part of safety and Health at Work Legislation.

SOCIAL CAPITAL: MENTALLY HEALTH COMMUNITIES:
1,Social support networks.
2,Society's knoweledge of an attitude towards mental health.
3,Respect for diversity and tolerance.
4,Proportion of people living in poverty.
5,National development of Human Rights.
6,Existence of legislation and policies promoting social inclusion.
7, Proportion of people who volunteers in non-profit organizatiions and communities.

PHYSICAL ENVIRONMENT:
1,Promotion of safety in vulnerable population.
2,Proportion of green spaces with public access.

LEISURE ACTIVITIES:
Frequency of participation in sporting activities.
MENTAL HEALTH AND OLDER ADULTS:
1,Access to social clubs or centres for older adults.
2, Proportion of people over 65 engaged in training or education.
3,Adequacy of pensions.
4,Rate of large families including old people.
